Prince St Pizza

New York Means Pizza! 🍕

When you think of New York, you think of pizza! It’s practically a city trademark. Walking around the streets of NYC, you’ll notice pizza shops on almost every block. Whether it’s a hole-in-the-wall joint or a trendy new pizzeria, the city is absolutely brimming with options.

And let me tell you, there’s something special about American street pizza - the thin crust, the simplicity of tomato sauce, gooey mozzarella, and a generous sprinkle of parmesan. It’s basic, but somehow, it’s the best. In a city so fast-paced, a quick slice of pizza is the perfect grab-and-go meal, yet it carries so much flavor and satisfaction.

One place that I had heard about time and time again was Prince Street Pizza. Now, I’m not typically a fan of the super hyped-up pizza spots; I prefer something a bit more low-key. But as I passed by it on several occasions, I couldn’t help but notice the insanely long lines outside. And you know what they say: “If you’re in SoHo, you gotta try Prince Street Pizza.” Curiosity got the best of me, so I decided to finally see what all the fuss was about!

Prince St Pizza exterior

Located right in the heart of SoHo on Prince Street, the pizza shop is tiny but lively. The last time I walked by, it seemed like an unassuming little spot, but this time, I noticed that they had two separate lines - one for whole pies and one for slices. Since we weren’t looking to commit to a whole pizza, we joined the slice line, which, despite being long, moved surprisingly fast. The staff simply pop the pre-made slices into the oven for a quick reheat before serving, so the turnover is quick, and people keep flowing in and out.

Inside, there’s a small standing area where you can grab a few condiments - red pepper flakes, garlic powder, and napkins - and munch on your slice. The shop is a no-frills kind of place, but that adds to its charm. There are a few tables outside, but they’re pretty limited, so most people tend to eat on the go. The walls inside are lined with photos of celebrities who’ve visited the shop, all posing with the owner. It’s clear that the place became a cultural landmark under the original owner, and now, his son has taken over.

The vibe inside feels very much like a New York classic - unpretentious, busy, and totally iconic. It’s the kind of place where you can tell that people have been coming for years, grabbing a slice in the middle of a hectic day. It has that old-school NYC charm, where the lines out the door are almost as much a part of the experience as the pizza itself.

As for the pizza, we were excited to try the famous offerings on the menu. We went with two slices of their Spicy Spring Pizza and one slice of the Spicy Vodka Pizza, plus a Diet Coke to wash it all down. The slices were piping hot, fresh out of the oven, just the way I like it!

What We Ordered

Spicy Spring Pizza

This is their signature pizza, and it’s known for being loaded with crispy pepperoni. The slice was thick, with a hearty base that could stand up to the richness of all the toppings. The flavor was bold - super salty with that unmistakable pepperoni punch. At first, the flavor was almost overwhelming! But I have to admit, those crispy, slightly charred edges of the pepperoni were absolutely delicious.

Spicy Spring pizza

The pizza was on the heavier side for me, and I found myself needing a little something to cut through the richness. Luckily, they had red pepper flakes and garlic powder available, so I sprinkled some of both on the pizza to balance out the flavors. That did the trick and made the slice much more enjoyable for me personally, as the added heat and flavor helped to tame the richness.

Spicy Vodka Pizza

Now, this one was the one I was really excited to try. I’ve been obsessed with vodka sauce ever since I came to the U.S. - I even make vodka sauce pasta at home! So when I saw that they had a spicy version of vodka pizza, I had to try it.

Spicy Vodka Pizza

Honestly? The vodka sauce had that perfect creamy texture, and the spice level was just right—not too overpowering but enough to give the pizza a nice kick. The flavors were well-balanced, with a bit of richness but not too heavy, and the slight heat made each bite exciting. The Spicy Vodka Pizza was the perfect combination of creamy, tangy, and spicy, and I definitely preferred it over the Spicy Spring Pizza.

Was It Good?

The short answer: yes, it was good. The longer answer? It lived up to a lot of the hype, but not all of it. I think my expectations were perhaps a bit too high, given its reputation as one of the top three pizza spots in NYC. Don’t get me wrong, it was a great slice of pizza, but I prefer the simple, classic New York street pizza that’s found all over the city - thin crust, basic toppings, and nothing too fancy. Prince Street Pizza is definitely a bit more indulgent and gourmet than what you’d normally expect, and that’s not a bad thing at all.

But if you’re visiting New York and love pizza, it’s worth trying at least once—if not for the pizza itself, then for the whole experience. The lines, the photos on the wall, and the energetic vibe of the place all add up to a unique New York experience. 🍕✨
